Sharegiver Solutions
Began with a personal journey
New way of thinking, and acting, differently about caregiving.
Ours is a practical system for supporting, guiding, and equipping the caregiver to provide the highest level of care,
while also taking good care of themselves.
Why Sharegiving?
Mindset, Gameplan, Networks
Are you ready to change your mind?
And thrive as a care giver
What really matters,
and how to get it done?
Do you have trouble asking for help?
The secret sauce of successful caregiving?
“Networks” is the secret sauce of family member caregiving — it not only identifies and organizes those persons in the caregivers personal network (family and friends) and professional network (doctors, therapist, bankers, accountant, lawyers, etc — and schedules and keeps current appointments and deliverables (see Module 2 “GamePlan”), but it also establishes for the caregiver a sense of belonging and support (see Module 1 “Meaning Mindset”), so important for achieving our overall objective, cultivating “Peace of Mind” — You have help! People care! You’re not alone!
Building a Personal Network requires getting in contact family and friends who have previously offered to help, or you believe would be happy/willing to do so. The ask can be made by a text or email, using a basic transmittal letter/form we will provide, that would include the nature of the request (which could be simple visit/respite for the caregiver, meal preparation, transportation, etc), a brief orientation (to be followed by one more complete when someone signs up), registration and current contact info, a three- month calendar showing available dates to sign up for, or an indication of general availability and required notice, and a current condition page, updated monthly, which provides status updates of the patient.
Overview
The Sharegiving approach to family-member dementia caregiving focuses primarily on three areas, “Mindset,” “Gameplan” and “Networks,” designed to enhance to life of the caregiver, who is typically untrained and unprepared. David Stoller, who has cared for his wife Barbara for over 12 years, understands the plight of the family-member dementia caregiver, which often includes excessive loneliness and guilt, as well as physical, emotional, mental and financial stress. In this initial podcast, David and his brother Rob introduce the audience to “Sharegiving”, which will ideally provide relief, support, insight and hope to a growing population of family members caring for a loved one living with dementia.
This work is hard … it can chew you up and knock you down. We can help you activate a positive mindset and philosophy, which will drive your effectiveness as a caregiver, and thrive in your own life …

Mindset
Perhaps the most critical and over-arching area of the “Sharegivers” focus is that of “Mindset”, from the moment of receiving the Dementia diagnosis through the evolution of the disease along its inevitable course. In this podcast, David and Rob Stoller discuss the Sharegiver’s ”mindset” as developed by David through his many years of being Barbara’s primary caregiver. Beyond simply accepting the wholesale upheaval of one’s life, a Sharegiver’s mindset takes a proactive approach to facing the situation in a positive way (understanding there is no happy ending), determining to be the most effective caregiver one can be, while at the same time paying great attention to one’s own well-being, too often overshadowed by the needs of the Partner, and overlooked by the Sharegiver.

Gameplan
When faced with any challenging situation, and this being perhaps the most challenging, it is imperative to prepare and proceed with a strategy. In this “Share.Giving” podcast, David and Rob Stoller discuss the Sharegiver Solutions daily, weekly, and long-term blueprint for organizing and scheduling shared activities, as well as for time allocation and attention to the Sharegiver’s social and emotional needs.
We all need help. But for many of us, asking is too hard, so we don’t. Our program makes it a whole lot easier — helping with the ask, and simplifying the key tasks: assignments, scheduling, orientation and followup. And voila, you have the helpers you’ve needed, each of whom get the special chance to share the caring.

Networks
Having previously discussed the first two facets of the Sharegiver Solutions approach to family-member caregiving, today we will discuss the third: Networks. Our three primary networks, of enormous value: Family and friends; trusted professional experts; and the communal Mutual Aid Network. There is information, support and power represented by the almost 20 million family-member dementia caregivers in the US, and we are attempting to galvanize that lobby, and provide access and exchange among all these Sharegivers.
